no because i have the right to keep my own name and bosses dont have the right to change anything about anyone.

well i think that is wrong, because he is trying to change his employes names to american name. if i had to change my name to a different i would quit the job. it sound dumb because they are trying to make you to change a name that you already have. And to tell the truth no boss has the right to change the there name to a different name thats what i think.

Well, i think he is dumb and st/.,;;./;”!, because there is no rule or any law that says they should change their names. Another thing is why do they have to talk english in his presence. that is ridiculous, anyone can talk however they want. He should be fired and jailed for that.

If my boss demanded me to change my name i wouldnt do so.
i would stay with the name that my parents gave me when i was born. Its not fair for the parents and the family for some random guy wanting to change your name. so yeah like i said i wouldnt change it at all.

Well my name is bilingual and already people think i am white (which i’m not) so this isn’t a problem to me. However the changing of names of other non bilingual named people is wrong. It is racism.

I think that’s wrong because no one has the right to tell someone else to change their name just because he or she thinks it’s gonna be bad for business. In this article some guy tells his workers (mexican workers) to change their names because it’s bad for business, at least thats what I think. Those names were given to them by their parents from birth and that’s the name that society will recognize hem by, especially those who know them by their real name, the mexican name not the one that is translated in english. Besides, it’s their name and they should have the final word in making the choice of keeping or changing their name to something that doesn’t make them comfortable.

I think it is very Dumb if he told me that, i would of told him he was stupid then i would go get an other job that wouldn’t ask me to get an other name.

What i think about the article is that it is racism. People cant just tell other people to change there names because of some job. A name is part of who u are where u come from. If some one would tell me to change my name for a job i would just quit and find another one. But if it is a well paying job then I would have an exception.

If i was to change my name just for my job,i don’t think i would change my name. i would rather quit because i am proud of my name. thats why i wouldn’t change my name.

I think it is wrong because it isn’t the right thing to tell their employees to change their name.It is an act of racism towards the latino people working on the hotel. Also I look at it as ignorance of the owner, he doesn’t have the right to tell his workers to change their name.I would have been really mad and abused if they told me to change my name.Lastly, I think the workers should make him know how things are and that it isn’t right to change personal information and name just because and owner of a job tells you so.

What i think about the article was that the manager did not do his changes appropriately. He first should have asked all his workers if it was ok for him to change their name. They should have decided as a group but what he did was he demanded that they change their name. Do i think he’s a racist yes because him demanding peoples names to be changed because they are Hispanic shows he has nop respect for them and he thinks he could do anything he wants to them. He could have handled the situation better

i think that it is stupid for your boss to ask you to change your name ….. i’d be looking for another job quickly. This guy is so stupid because you don’t have to change your name and it is your right to have whatever name you want. and another thing that is so clear is that mexican people are the best in the world.

My answer to the question of “Would you change your name if your boss demanded it?,” would be NO! Why would I really change my name just because of my boss saying so? That would just be simple discrimination towards the employee being told that. In addition to all of that, your name might mean something to you and wouldn’t like to change it for whatever reason.

Well, i think that what the man was wrong because he didn’t have a right to make anyone change their names’. I wouldn’t change my name even if my boss asked me to, because its my name and and its a sign of my culture and heritage.

Wow!! I’m amazed that there are still people in the world who are so narrow minded. How can someone force people to change their names because not everyone knows how to pronounce Spanish accents. That’s a dumb excuse to enforce such actions. The employees had to also speak English in his presence. That shows he has no trust in his employees.

no i would not change my name just because my boss would tell me too. and my name is Rogelio but they always call me roger so i would not matter to change my name. i believe that is wrong to the employer to ask for the person to change any employers name. also i think you would not respect your employer because you are trying to change there name. that is discrimination to the employer and also to ask to only talk in english when they are around him is very wrong.

Changing another persons name is wrong in so many ways, many people would be discontent with this situation. Its not just a name for the person who is being forced to do this, it is what they stand for and who they’ve been their whole lives.

If i was to be in a situation where my boss told me to Anglicize my name I would make a protest or just quit the job. I would feel discriminated against my race. It would make me angry to hear that from his mouth. If he also told me not to speak in spanish i would do it more so it would make him angrier. I think what he is doing is very wrong and should realize that he is being racist.

I think that this “new” rule is racist for many reasons. First nobody has the right to change your name without any concern from you. Also nobody can tell what language to speak while at work that’s violating your rights because that’s against your freedom of speech.

I would never change my name just because someone wants to or even if the person that is paying me a salary demands it. i believe that as humans we have the right to keep our costumes and of course our names, beacause that is what represent us as what we are, whether we’re Latinos, african Americans , or White we should never let anyone tell us what fits the best for us or just try to fit in with other people.

people that they say to change ur name for a job u just cant.because ur name is ur identity ur name is who u are. who ppl know u as and that represents u and also that is the key to ur freedom.thats what ur parents named to become that person who u are

no! i would definetly not change my name just because of some racist person.not even if he were my boss. he doesn’t have the right to do so.plus nobody can tell you what language to speak around them.

I think the bosses are very wrong because they don’t have the right to change the name that belongs to you and specially your birth name.I think that by changing the name is a cause of racism and that shouldn’t be brought again.

it’s not right. That’s racist, and if it was my boss, well he can’t fire me because of that. I mean im pretty sure some law protects me. And if not i could just site, like racism, because it’s obvious that guy had some in him. Look at it from any angle and it’s just stupid, not even worth discussing. What if a mexican boss did the same thing, the freaking apocalypse would probably happen.

There is no way that i would ever change my name for anyone. I would never change it for a white person. My name is what makes me and i am what makes my name. My mom gave me my name and i would never contradict her. I wouldn’t care if i would loss my job because of my job. Not only would I file for a date to court because that person is trying ti take my rights away. Although my name sounds american i am very much MEXICAN. I am proud of my culture and i would never put it down for any person.

i think this is the worst thing you could do to any person because a name its not just letters. your name is who you are and what you represent, it has a bigger meaning than just how it sound or how it is pronounced, your name describes who you are and even a little how you look. i think no one should follow that ignorant person

Heck no!!!! Ask anyone that question and they would all give the same answer that no one would change their name for anyone. You were given that name since birth why would anyone change their name? Or better yet why would you change your name if someone told you to? YeahI don’t think so.
October 27, 2009 at 10:24 am
April
I wouldn’t really care, because ever since i was a kid i’ve always been called April. So it wouldnt make much of a difference to me, my friends call me April, my cousins, even my mom, at times. However, i dont think its right. to do so when you dont have the consent of the person.

Changing my name for a boss goes against my ideals. Besides the fact that a name has absolutely nothing to do with how well you perform as an employee, it can also be degrading, and senseless. Your name does not determine who you really are…you do. No one should have to bend to the worthless values of someone who figures this is okay, just because he thinks it is. My name would be changed on my own terms,by my own terms.

I would never change my name just because my boss demanded it. Your boss doesn’t have the right to change your birth name because it can mean something to you or your family. It’s the employees name not the name of the boss so they should decide if they change their name or not. What the boss did is discrimination towards the employees.

If i was told to change my name i would never do it, because that has been my identity and it will continue to be. It would be right to do it for any others persons reasons. I don’t even think some one that doesn’t like their own name would even change it just because of someone else, even less for your own boss.

I THINK WHAT THIS MAN IS DOING IS VERY WRONG. I WOULDN’T CHANGE MY NAME IF SOMEONE WOULD SAY SO. I WOULD CHANGE IT IF I DON’T LIKE MY NAME, BUT I WOULDN’T CHANGE IT IF THEY TELL ME SO. 😦
IT IS WRONG THAT YOUR BOSS OR SOMEONE ELSE TELLS YOU TO CHANGE YOUR NAME AND NOT TO SPEAK SPANISH WHEN BEING IN WORK.

It wouldnt really matter anymore if people changed the pronuncation of my name. people do that to me everyday, and i dont really mind. my parents day david(da-veed) and teachers and friends say david(day-vid). i didnt write the pronouncing thing write but you, the reader, get the point. the name thing is not really a big deal to me.

If my boss tells me to change my name just because he says he demanded it i would not listen to him because he is trying to be racist with me. If others bosses told me that i have to change my name i will tell them that they are such a racist and they don’t have an idea that they are braking the rules of the state. If the presidents heard the bosses that they are saying to change our name then the president will fire him and put another boss. Then if the boss say to speak English when he is walking through us and says to not speak spanish wen he is with us because he will think that we are talking bad things about him. Thats not fear because he will not let us talk to others who don’t know how to speak English.

I wouldn’t change my name if my boss demanded me too because he has no right over me and telling me that by having a hispanic name is making the store lose business, because of people not being able in pronouncing hispanic names. Which that shouldn’t be a problem because we can pronounce names, may not pronounce it right but we can. In my opinion of people talking another language in front of other people that can’t understand is rude so i do agree in them talking English in front of the boss not Spanish. The only reason for people to talk Spanish in front of the boss is if they don’t know English.

I wouldn’t change my name just because some stup!d old sag wants me to anglicize my name thats dumb. anyways i wouldn’t change my name. also because we have a right to keep our names because they are a part of us and i wouldn’t change my name just because my boss says so not even if he demanded it i would quit.

if my boss would demand me to change my name i would definetely not do it. first of he does not have the right. my job is just to work on what i was hired and thats it. he is no one to telling me to change my name. that is not possible even if he’s my boss. our name is what defines us an characterizes us it would be unfair to have it take away. i would never let my boss decide on my name, personality, or anything.

I strongly disagree with this idea about your boss changing your name. I belief that if your boss wants to change your name, he is violating your rights. Not only is he violating your rights but he is also discriminating you and being racist. thye name of the employee doesn’t have anything to do with the work. What matters is the person and its qualities and what he can offer to the job. If we agree with the person changing our name we are contributing to the oppression we have been facing for so many decades.

i would not or never change my name for any reason…..
not even for a job or if my boss tells me to. if they don’t

no, i don’t think its right. but with the name thing, he is just translating their names into english, which isn’t wrong because any person could call me by my name and pronounce it with an english accent. As far as the not letting them speak spanish, i don’t think that’s right. It may even be illegal. But they should never try to make somebody change their name or not letting them speak their maternal language.

I wouldn’t change my name just because my boss told me 2, da ONLY reason 2 change my name is if im wanted n i have 2 but other then that no… Who would actually change their name if their boss told them 2??? i think no1 will because its their name n they can do ANYTHING they want with it. No1 can take ur name from u because u have proof n have people that can back u up. So basically my answer 2 da question is no straight out…

well i think i would change my name from spanish to english if a boss demanded it. I wouldn’t really care. and to talk english every time they are around him i would do because well i it was me and i didn’t understand spanish i think i would also do the same thing. and it would be better because they will know start to speak english when people come to the hotel.

In my personal opinion, the boss has no reason to demand to his employees to change their name thats against the Constitution of the United States, i believe that the Supreme Court of New Mexico must take an action against the boss. However, the boss is only manipulating to his employees, in the other hand the employees have the right speak up, and show to that “boss” that they as employees knows their right including to the issue of NOT letting the employees to speak spanish. Maybe this boss is from the eighteenth century jajaajja anyways i recommend to those employees to speak up.

i well never change my name i rather find other job that well let me keep my name and to let me speak spanish. that like dumb that some people get to do that they want there works to change the name that like dumb. I never had see somebody do that i don’t even want to know somebody like that.

no one has the right to change your name unless you decide that you want to change it. Because they don’t have the authority to change your name and other personal information. If i had to change my name in oder to get a job i would probably not get the job. Because if they change your name what other things might they try to change in the years that you might be working with them.

I would never do that, i don’t care if my boss fires me.I think what he is doing is wrong, no one has to change their name in order to have a job. I would never change my name for a job or any other reason.if a boss asks you to change your name because its in spanish and allot of people cant understand it then just tell them that they can try to pronounce your name. Like some times we mexicans have to learn to pronounce theirs.

I wouldn’t change my name for any body. I think that it was wrong for him to do that. They should talk english in front of costumers because they might think that they are talking about them. They shouldn’t have to change there name just to have a job. So they shouldn’t have to change there names. That is what i think about the thing that he made them do.

In my opinion i think that this guy Larry Whitten is CRAZY, trying to change peoples names because he thinks the MEXICAN name is too long. If one day a new boss came to the place that I am working at and tells me change my name i would just QUIT and look for a job that would want me with my name. I don’t think that a name makes difference in a job, what does make a difference is how that person does his or her job.

When you are born the people who give you life bless you with a name to give you character. To change that name would be disrespectful and wrong. If I had a boss who thought he could change something my very own parents gave me, he’d be very wrong. I’d never change my name for a ignorant hotel owner. His hotel isn’t the only one in this world and I could easily find a job elsewhere. It would be stupid on my behalf to change my name that I’ve had for so many years for a job I might have for only a few years and not all my life.

I THINK THAT GUY IS CRAZY BECAUSE HE IS NOBODY TO BE TELLING HIS EMPLOYEES THAT THEY HAVE TO CHANGE THEIR NAME, I THINK THAT THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO KEEP THEIR NAME AND THEY DON’T HAVE TO CHANGE IT JUST BECAUSE THIS DUMB BOSS WANTS THEM TO CHANGE IT.
IN MY PERSPECTIVE HIS WRONG BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS THERE OWN IDENTITY LIKE OR NOT. aND IF YOU DONT LIKE THERE NAME TRY TO GET SOMEONE ELSE TO WORK FOR YOU, BUT A BET ANYTHING THAT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO ACCEPT BECAUSE FRO SOME PEOPLE LIKE ME THERE NAME IS A TRADITION THAT IS PASSED.
